God’s Timing

“Now when they had departed, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream, saying, “Arise, take the young Child and His mother, flee to Egypt, and stay there until I bring you word; for Herod will seek the young Child to destroy Him.””
‭‭Matthew‬ ‭2:13 NKJV‬‬

“But Jesus answered and said to him, “Permit it to be so now, for thus it is fitting for us to fulfill all righteousness.” Then he allowed Him.”
‭‭Matthew‬ ‭3:15‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

These two verses bring an interesting perspective on God’s plan. Jesus was the designated Savior even at His birth, but His premature death would not have resulted in the purpose for which He was sent to earth. Thus for His death to amount to the significance that it carried, it had to happen at the appointed time!

In the second verse, Jesus came with the superior baptism (the baptism of the Holy Spirit and fire - Matt 3:11) compared to what John was offering (the baptism of water). Despite that, John’s baptism was a prerequisite to ‘fulfill all righteousness’ and John had to allow it based on that rationale.

That is the beauty of God – being able to put everything on the line for a favorable outcome, even when dealing with the susceptibility of man to be unpredictable and often wavering!

Even today God puts everything on the line for us despite our unpredictable trends, because He has a crazy love for us – yes, He still leaves the 99 to find the 1!
