Worship, Love And Grace: PART EIGHT
Welcome
to the continuation of our Worship, Love and Grace series. Today we
learn a little bit more about grace, even as we aspire to conclude this
series the next few days. May our hearts be open to receive from the
Lord!
Today we will look at the role we need to play as Christians, despite the availability of Grace
While tresspass caused by one sin, made many to attract judgement, the grace from Christ catered for all the sins of the many (Romans 5:15-16)
Thus, this may be taken by someone as a cue to engage in sin. But just how much do we take for granted the availability and sufficiency of grace? Let's find out why this is not right
Romans 6:1-2
1 What shall we say, then? Shall we go on sinning so that grace may increase?
2 By no means! We died to sin; how can we live in it any longer?
Instead of the debt of sin increasing as tresspasses were made more revelate through the law, the debt of sin was fully settled and done with through grace (Romans 5:20)!
And this explains verse 1 of Romans 6. Grace increases even as trespasses increase, and many times, we may actually be tempted to sin all the more. Yet, practically speaking, sinning willfully because grace abides is taking grace for granted!
And so Romans 6 is very clear in verse 2! The presence of grace means we are dead to sin!
And so, what you are dead to, you can no longer live in! And so we have to either choose death through sin, or life through grace!
There is no "neutral ground" in this! And thus the abundance of grace, brings forth the abundance of life, as opposed to the abundance of death!
Let me take this deeper:
Romans 6:18-19
18 You have been set free from sin and have become slaves to righteousness.
19 I put this in human terms because you are weak in your natural selves. Just as you used to offer the parts of your body in slavery to impurity and to ever-increasing wickedness, so now offer them in slavery to righteousness leading to holiness.
The thing is that: when you were dead in sin, you were a slave to sin! Thus, righteousness had no place in you!
But when grace became manifest, life became manifest! Thus what was in death, became exposed to life!
And when you believed in faith, you became a partaker of grace! Thus, sin automatically lost its hold in you!
Hear this: When one dispensation/power ceases, a new dispensation/power, takes its place!
Thus, when sin loses its hold on a person, something has to replace that hold! According to Romans 6:18, whatever takes over is righteousness!
Thus, the dispensation/power of grace brings forth the access to righteousness!
And thus, what was initially given to sin, has to be given to righteousness! This is to mean that the presence of grace does not cue us in to sin more, rather to pursue righteousness!
Because the body, mind, soul, spirit, heart that was initially in slavery to sin has now got a new master, who is righteousness!
And a pursuit for righteousness will lead to Holiness!
Now, let me bring it home:
Romans 6:22-23
22 But now that you have been set free from sin and have become slaves to God, the benefit you reap leads to holiness, and the result is eternal life.
23 For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Child of God, when we begin to pursue Holiness, borne through a pursuit in righteousness, the gift we receive is eternal life!
And thus when we take grace for granted by living in sin, what we are implying is that we are on the path to death! But on the contrary, honouring grace through living in righteousness makes us beneficiaries of eternal life!
Finally, it is prudent to remember that eternal life can only be accessed through redemption in Christ Jesus! He is the Truth, the Way and the Life (John 14:6)
Hence, our trespasses are only done away through Him!
Romans 5:17 For if, by the trespass of the one man, death reigned through that one man, how much more will those who receive God's abundant provision of grace and of the gift of righteousness reign in life through the one man, Jesus Christ.
God bless you!
