Lukewarm Ain't Hot Enough For Me Part 11
Grace to you and peace from our Father dear brethren. Today we are going to look at the Sunday Christian. It is very heartbreaking of late, how many Christians are willing to temporarily "put down" their Christianity on certain occassionally, as they try to remain relevant in a world that is treacherous. Recently, I found myself in a setting where a few Christian friends set up a Whatsapp group. This group was made up of people who are in the worship ministry, and the agenda was to practice songs to be done in the wedding of one of our peers. I am usually very skeptical about being added to groups that I have not been consulted on prior, but a look at the composition of this group and the nobility of the agenda, I made peace with myself. The first sign of trouble began when the songs to be "ministered" began being posted. Not one gospel song was posted! Surprised? I was dumbfounded for a while. However, I gave our leader the opportunity to remedy this situation and for a few hours I subdued myself from an outburst. However, much to my disappointment, the leader was on board and even settled on a church venue for practice! I almost snapped.
I held my cool just enough to ask if those songs were what we were expected to do, and why we opted for secular music yet we are believer's (moreso levites) who were expected to minister true Worship to the Lord. The response was that these secular songs were "love" songs and being that they were to be done in a wedding, they were okay; it was apparently okay to express the love theme with any material regardless of its origin. Another response was that the songs were okay but they should not be practiced in church. My honest inference on these responses was that it is okay to put down Jesus temporarily during certain times, places and environments, then pick Him up afterwards. This is what being a Sunday Christian is about. It is the aspect of Lukewarm where we practice Christianity in certain places and settings, on certain days and in certain ways! Paul in Romans 13:11-14 admonishes that we must awake from sleep, shun what is of darkness, uphold light, have a straight walk, put on Christmas, and make no provisions for flesh!
James 4:4 says that friendship with the world is enmity with God. If we are to be Christians that stand up for God, it will not be because we studied apologetics or read scholarly articles on how to be steadfast in faith; it will probably not be because we engaged in arguments with atheists on the existence of God; but it will definitely be because our very existence represents Brand Jesus every waking minute of our lives. It's only in realizing what being true ambassadors of Christ is, that we will detach ourselves from everything that threatens that very brand that we represent. We cannot condone being Sunday Christians!
PRAYER: Lord Jesus, ever kind and merciful. Forgive the error of my ways and lead me in the paths where Christianity is a lifestyle I uphold every second of my life. Teach me to walk in Your ways and obey Your statutes. I am a Christian on full time duty. Amen.
