Lukewarm Ain't Hot Enough For Me Part 12
Grace to you and peace from our Father dear brethren. Today we are going to conclude on our subject matter. It is my sincere hope that even as we were looking at the subject of being lukewarm as a Christian, you were doing an assessment on yourself to establish the area(s) you have been party to a lethargic Christian walk. As a matter of principle, when we imbibe the word we become a rich deposit of godly character. The Bible proclaims in Luke 6:45c that out of the abundance of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks. Proverbs 4:23 also says ‘Keep your heart with all diligence, for out of it spring the issues of life (NKJV)’. This in essence means that the paradox of all this is that ‘the heart of the matter is that it is a matter of the heart’! Indeed the truth of this can be summarized in saying that ‘the state of your heart is the state of your life’. Whatever a person sets their heart to pursue and interact with, becomes the very thing that bears fruit in their lives. Matthew 6:21 says ‘For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also (NKJV)’. Inadvertently, this means that to know where your heart is, then it only takes someone a peek into what you treasure. What are you treasuring today? If you can truthfully answer that, you can determine where God is prioritized in your life.
In Luke 24 from verse 13, we see an interesting account that happens to two disciples travelling to Emmaus. They encounter Christ on their way but do not recognize Him until they have invited Him to stay with them. When they start eating together, he breaks bread and their eyes are opened. Their confession in Luke 24:32 is ‘And they said to one another, “Did not our heart burn within us while He talked with us on the road, and while He opened the Scriptures to us (NKJV)?”’. As I was pondering on this, God revealed something about this that made me awed. First, it is their proximity to Jesus and the impact of His words that set their hearts ablaze. Secondly, as the Scriptures got inculcated into their hearts, a fire was birthed. Thirdly, it is their invitation to Him that sets them up on a path to revelation. Initially, they had had an interaction with Jesus, but now they were having an encounter with Christ! What this means to us as the body of Christ is that: an invitation to His presence unlocks the entire resource of heaven; our proximity to Christ and how impactful His Word is to our lives, is the torch that fires up our hearts.
Though whatever Christ had said before His crucifixion had all turned out true, the disciples were relating with all this without revelation. They were ever learning the truth but never coming to the knowledge of it! We are in times when the body of Christ no longer partakes of the fresh bread of His presence, but have become partakers of what is stale. The tragedy of it all is that most do not know they are partaking of what is stale, while countless others have come to accept and enjoy what is stale! We need to pursue His presence because only His presence can take us out of being lukewarm and ignite in us a fire for Him!
PRAYER: Lord I surrender my heart to You. I seek Your mercy for being comfortable with what is stale and adulterated. Reignite the fire in me today and show me how to partake of the fresh bread of Your presence. Amen.
