Lukewarm Ain't Hot Enough For Me Part 9
Grace to you and peace from our Father dear brethren. Today we will look at an interesting phenomenon that has found its way to the church of late - the Liberal Christian! Recently I had a heart-breaking conversation with a lady who told me that she is both Christian and Muslim. I was as surprised as you possibly are right now. So I asked her to explain what that was all about and she confidently told me her father was a Muslim and her mother was Christian. Naturally, I explained that those were the affiliations of her parents and asked her what hers was. Her answer? She was a little bit of both! Interesting enough, this lady is a Christian Union Chairperson. I was so taken aback by this but the more I sat down to think about it, the more I realized that liberal Christianity is not uncommon today. In a bid to be more open minded and accommodating, we have opened ourselves up to liberalism.
The different trends in the world today are are spoken of in 2nd Timothy 4:3-4 'For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers; and they will turn their ears away from the truth, and be turned aside to fables (NKJV)'. Lukewarm wants to hear what is comfortable and pleasant to the ear, forgetting that the word of God is also profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, and instruction in righteousness (2nd Timothy 3:16). If we are to be the salt of the earth as Matthew chapter 5 dictates, we cannot allow ourselves to lose our taste by being lukewarm. We have to set the demarcation as per the standard of God in Matthew 6:24. We cannot at all costs rewrite the Bible to fit into our lives. The Bible is His unchanging word; our constitution and ultimate authority. The word is so powerful and binding, that even God cannot go against it!
Being liberal in our faith is just a more comfortable way to portray our lukewarm nature. As we peddle the need for accommodating everyone in our faith, we cannot lower the standard at all! Conformity is birthed by those who give excuses for their shortcomings and then go ahead and justify sin by saying God us loving, merciful and forgiving! Romans 6:1-2 asks the most important question that this age should address 'What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin that grace may abound? Certainly not! How shall we who died to sin live any longer in it? (NKJV)'. The bottom line brethren is that the standard is unanimous in its addressing of every issue of life! There's no wiggle room that grace provides because grace is a perfector of the law and truth is a revelation of sin!
PRAYER: Lord Jesus thank You for your love and mercy. Forgive my perversion of grace and truth as I have sought out to fix Your word in my situation. Today I repent of every excuse I have adopted to validate liberalism. I now fix my eyes solely on You as the standard for my life. Thank you for Your Light. Shine it through me. Amen
